Intensive outpatient rehab gives patients comprehensive, in-depth addiction and mental health care alongside the independence of living at home.
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) represent a critical level of care in the addiction treatment continuum, providing structured, evidence-based treatment while allowing individuals to maintain their daily responsibilities.
The intensive outpatient program (IOP) at The Recovery Village Atlanta Outpatient Center helps clients transition to living in the community after living onsite at one of our sister locations, The Recovery Village Atlanta or The Recovery Village South Atlanta. Patients can also begin their recovery at our center. In an IOP, clients receive several hours of rehab therapies each week to address the emotional and mental impacts of addiction and co-occurring disorders.

The time to complete rehab is different for each person. However, clients who dedicate themselves to their recovery often complete their IOP in 12 weeks.
Medical detox is not included in an IOP. If you need medical detox, you should complete that program first before transitioning to more flexible levels of care like IOP.
IOPs help patients transition from living at the facility full-time to living at home and visiting for treatment. It gives clients access to all the medical care, therapy and support needed to prepare for their life in recovery. This pivotal step helps many patients decrease their risk of relapse and overdose after completing rehab.
Transportation is not provided. It is the patient’s responsibility to find transportation to and from their IOP rehab appointments.
Insurance may cover some or all of the costs associated with intensive outpatient rehab, though copays and deductibles may still apply. Our Recovery Advocates can also discuss private payment options for those without insurance.
Several laws are in place that protect employees’ jobs when they attend rehab. Intensive outpatient rehab appointments can also often be scheduled around work hours.

IOP patients attend at least nine hours of therapy per week. You’ll have medical appointments, one-on-one sessions with your therapist, and skills-based group therapy sessions that help you develop strategies for daily sober living.
